Defending your base while in combat on the battlefield requires some knowledge and testing. The science behind this balance can be quite complex. This guide will assist in making that journey easier.
One of the most important boosts for defending your base is Attack. Not to be confused with Assault. This may seem counterintuitive, however, let’s take a closer look.
When thinking of how Attack, Defense, and Health apply to your troops. Try to imagine this. Each troop has a gun, the size and strength of the bullet is your Attack boost. The amount of bullets it takes to kill a troop is dictated by the defense. The number of bullets in the gun relates to health.
Many are surprised to hear this and have the preconceived notion that defense is paramount. It is important, however, the path the success lies in Attack. We are talking about base foundations here. There is more than one way to accomplish a game play style. You need to set a personal goal and pick and choose the information that best fits that outcome.
There is a massive difference between being strong enough to defend yourself versus being someone who is building intentionally to try and trap via rallies and solos. They are not even in the same league, however, the general principles follow regardless. By setting up your foundations correctly from the get-go so there are no weak links in your base that can be exploited by experienced hunters is key.
The research will be one of the defining elements in driving the player’s strategy to glory. Having ample and enough up-to-date research is incredibly powerful. As a defender, you have to remember and assume that whoever is going to attack you has all the flashy latest, and greatest gizmos and gadgets. Speaking in defensive terms the inevitable threat of being attacked is something players need to prepare for.
Commanders and Defense
There are many reasons to always be at your best. In addition, there are indeed 4 Commanders in Mobile Strike to choose from, the undisputed leader in the case of defending one’s base at this stage of the game will be your Commander 3. That’s not to say players don’t find success using a Commander 4 or even Commander 1, but Commander 3 will always score better assuming all other variables remain constant.
Commander Skill Trees
When organizing your Commander skill tree remember this is about not burning and being as strong as you possibly can.
Apply skill points only to the nodes that give a boost to those areas for this scenario. Base Defender boosts, Troop specific, and Debuffs.
If lacking skills points do not apply them to the Control Points Boosts or Deployment size and Rally Capacity. These do not offer any advantage while you are under attack.
For more information on Commanders, and their skilling please see my guide on Commanders here.
To compete at the highest level you must have the best available gear set to defend your base. We have recently seen the drop of Ghost Revenant gear. Level 6 stats are an improvement over the Grand Protector, however, until set gear leveling and enhancements become available the Grand Protector gear will yield stronger boosts.
Wearing the most relevant mods is imperative to your everyday survival on the battlefield. Keep yourself organized by maintaining your mod presets. As you obtain more level 6 mods you can apply a full set to your gear quickly and efficiently giving you the boost you need.
Please note: To receive the ‘Mod Set Bonus’ you must have Lv 6 Mods in place from the same mod set and your gear at Legendary status.
Extracting the most boost you have available at any one time is in your best interest. There are many options available to you when looking at which Insignias to equip for defense. For ease of use making presets with the ones you will be using the most will work in your favor.
My current Insignia setup for defense:
- Armour Vehicle Specialist – Armored Vehicle Attack
- Infantry Assault Specialist – Infantry Attack
- Tactical Assault Specialist – Tactical Attack
- Bulletproof – Base Defender Attack
- Hardstand – Troop Health Bonus
By all means, if you don’t have the above you could wear these listed below instead. See what works best for you with what Insignia you have available, referring back to your boosts each time to add to what lacks.
- Bolt Action – Tac Attack
- Double Action – Armored Vehicle Attack
- Pump Action – Infantry Attack
Augments are trinkets you can dangle from your weapon. These offer a variety of boosts and can be mixed and matched using a combination of 3 Augment sets that are currently available. You can equip up to 4 Augments at a time.
Augments can not be combined to a higher level. You can see which Augment levels you have available to you via your Armory.
Find the combination that works best for your playstyle by testing and pump your enemies full of lead.
Armory and Augments
You can assign up to 5 Assault Vehicles to your wall. These offer a substantial boost so getting it right should not be overlooked. These are the 5 most common to set up on your wall to offer the strongest combination. The Adder is still only a Rank 5, so I have started using the Predator for now which is offering Troop Attack, Armour Piercing, and Accuracy.
- Adder or Predator
If in a situation you know what type is coming at you and there is time to switch your Assault Vehicles up then you can counter the incoming attack with your Stealth Bomber, Osprey, or Havoc which are type-specific.
When building for defense you must maintain an equilibrium among your troop types. That’s not to say players aren’t successful in running a single troop type trap, however, being one-sided in defense opens the door for your enemy to counter directly.
When preparing to counter an attack we don’t want to expose a weakness. This is why I push so hard towards maintaining a balance among troop types and boost so you are prepared for anything and everything at all times. Closing all the points of entry so to speak, guarding all the doors, and locking all the windows. Doing this ensures you have a solid foundation to build upon and as your needs or the game dictates you will be able to transition with the game’s progression.
Additionally, remember your counters, Infantry kills Armoured Vehicles, Tactical kills Infantry, Armoured Vehicles kill Tactical and Artillery works well in the Bunkers and the Control Point.
Establishing good habits while on and offline will give you the best chance of survival because you’re always ready.
- Check that you are in your best Defender Commander and gear
- Bullets on if you are expecting to be an attack
- Bullets off if not
- Having a few serums ready to go but not wasting it
- Mechs healed
- Shield timer
Reports never lie. Study them and use the information given to modifying your strategy as needed until you achieve your desired outcome.
A boost is an increase in the percentage of a given stat.
Your stats can be found by tapping the power tab at the top of the game screen, then the boosts tab, then selecting the overall troop boosts tab midway down the list. Below is a list of the boosts that apply to your troops when being attacked.
- Infantry, Attack, Defense, and Health
- Tactical, Attack, Defense, and Health
- Armored Vehicle Attack, Defense, and Health
- Base Defender Attack (BDA)
- Base Defender Health (BDH)
- Base Defender Defense (BDD)
Overall Troop Boosts:
- Troop Attack with Commander
- Troop Health with Commander
- Armor Piercing
- Troop Attack Bonus
Synergy is just as important in a defense scenario as it is when attacking. Ideally, you should boost to counter the incoming attack. How do you know what’s coming at you? Watch for the mechs that are filling the rally against you. Let’s say you see Infernos filling the rally. Inferno mech goes with Infantry troops so you want to counter Infantry by boosting Hydro or Tactical attack.
For example, If you are a weaker base and just trying not to burn you would benefit by boosting the health synergy on your Terra. This will increase the health of your Armored Vehicle troops and thus cutting down on the losses.
Debuffs are boosts that mitigate the strength of your opponent’s troops. These are often overlooked, however, you must not forget to increase these boosts whenever possible.
For example, if your attacker has a 3m Troop attack and you have a 3m Combat Shielding you will negate their troop attack and so on. This works the same way for Armour Piecing with Troop Defence and Accuracy with Troop Health. These do not have any effect on Type stats or Base Assault/Defender.
There are, however, Type-Specific Debuffs available. They are found in research under the Debuff tab in your research facility as well as in your Commander 4 Skill tree.
The Prime Aggression Mods are the first to offer any Artillery Specific Debuffs. So far this is only available for Enemy Artillery Defense Debuff.
Accuracy – Health Debuff
Combat Shielding – Attack Debuff
Armor-piercing – Defense Debuff
Mech reinforcement is vital to your success in defending against a rally. When you see a rally set on you, immediately ask your team for mech rein. Even just 1 mech reinforcement could be the difference between a victory or defeat.
Please keep in mind that weaker or zeroed mech reins can hurt you so be sure your team understands when sending you rein.
In addition, making sure all of your mechs are home within your base if an attack is upon you will help you defend.
A Serum will aid in keeping you safe. Serums can be manufactured in your Biotec Lab and depending on the level will dictate how many ingredients you can add to your serum and the duration.
The below screenshot shows your Biotec Lab and a manufactured Serum. The latest Serum for defending your base is below. The beauty of the Biotech Lab is that there are many ingredients available to you so you can mix and match to find what is best suited.
The Special July 2021 Test Tubes offer the greatest amount of boost as of today. These do come in a PYO option for that reason selecting the Test Tube which presents the highest boost to assist you on your mission is what to go for. As this is a guide to defending yourself, the Base Defender Serums are featured in this article.

The Arsenal is a specialty building that itself offers zero boosts; however, inside there are a plethora of options available for you to bestow unique effects and deadly boosts upon your troops.
The Arsenal provides a substantial boost when Bullets are activated. At an Arsenal level 90, you can utilize up to 6 bullets at one time. Which is great.
Secondly, listed below is a list of the defender bullets. Mix and match as needed but bear in mind that attacks happen fast and you won’t always have time to select the perfect counter among your bullets.
- Depleted Uranium (2) – Bade Defender Attack, Base Defender Defense, and Base Defender Health
- Torrent-Earth Spiral – Accuracy
- Earth-Burst Spiral – Armor Piercing
- Sky-Burst Spiral – Combat Shielding
- Overpiercer – Enemy Armored vehicle Attack, Health, and Defense Debuff
- Drilltip Shot – Enemy Tactical Attack, Health, and Defense Debuff
- Acid Tip – Enemy Infantry Attack, Health, and Defense Debuff
- Compressed Ammo – Armored Vehicle Attack, Health, and Defense
- Corrosive Shell – Tactical Attack, Health, and Defense

The Development Centre is a specialty building. Most importantly, inside you will find a vast array of permanent boosts available to you once unlocked.
In conclusion, Combining all the elements at your disposal does more than just safeguard your base, it strengthens your team as a whole. Don’t be afraid to take risks and see where you stand. In any event, read the report and it will become apparent where you need to focus your attention before stepping out into the warzone.
